The importance of clear and open communication on corporate social responsibility

The survey of the Zagreb School of Economics and Management recognizes our company as the best in reporting on corporate social responsibility

 

The contemporary business world sees the corporate social responsibility as an increasingly important performance parameter. The leading global and Croatian companies therefore strive to be recognized as socially responsible entrepreneurs. The Zagreb School of Economics and Management conducted a survey for the third time last year that covered the Croatia's most prominent forty companies. Within the survey an expert team comprised of lecturers and students of this school analyzed the ways in which the selected companies communicate with the environment about their corporate social responsibility (CSR) and on line investor relations. In the first category Ericsson Nikola Tesla reached the biggest total score and in the second category it ranks fourth.


The survey was conducted during the period of four months in the past year and it was based on analysis of the published annual reports and special CSR booklets as well as the information published on the web about their social responsibility and investor relations. The selected companies collected points in line with a detailed set of globally relevant parameters. As the survey was conducted in cooperation with similar institutions in the region it has an added value because now the social responsibility practices and on line investor relations of the Croatian companies can be compared with the most prominent companies in the transition countries.

 

The total score related to the reporting via the annual reports and Internet placed Ericsson Nikola Tesla in the fist place. The company's electronic reporting was particularly highly ranked, which acknowledges Ericsson Nikola Tesla's role as a supplier, but also as a user and promoter of the modern communications technologies.

 

In her address during the ceremony on March 7 at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management at which the survey results were presented, one of the members of the expert survey team Leslie Matthews Šulenta pointed out that Ericsson Nikola Tesla is not among those companies that published a luxury CSR brochure but that it is a company that through the continued quality activities and measures based on social responsibility and precise, clear and timely informing about these activities built its image of a socially responsible entrepreneur.

 

The survey also acknowledges the company's good on line relationship with investors as in this category it ranks fourth, after Pliva, Podravka and Adris Group. This characterizes Ericsson Nikola Tesla as a stabile company that keeps its shareholders informed about its activities, strategies and plans. As one of the first Croatian companies that published its Principles of Corporate Governance Ericsson Nikola Tesla figures as a well-managed and organized company.

 

It is also interesting to mention that one of the findings in this survey points out that most Croatian companies place donations and sponsorship at the very top of the list of their social responsibility activities. In Ericsson Nikola Tesla's strategy this category is a part of the company's social responsibility and it is well balanced with other company's social responsibility activities that include high leadership standards, employee empowerment, customer partnership and good relations with shareholders as well as alignment with global quality and sustainable development principles.
