In cooperation with Ericsson Nikola Tesla
Vip Network’s Data Download at a Speed of up to 21 Mbps

Vipnet’s Technology Day held on February 5 featured the latest technology for mobile broadband, HSPA+, and to have reached a speed of up to 21 Mbps for data download from the Internet. Vipnet is one of the first in the world to have successfully tested and demonstrated this new technology for speed increase and the project was realised in cooperation with Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

The Vip network will support the latest HSPA+ speeds from as early as in Spring in the major cities, and the customers will then experience a considerable increase in network capacity and speedier data download regardless of the speed supported by the Vodafone Mobile Connect device that they use to access the Internet. HSPA+ speeds require new devices to access the Internet and the manufacturers are expected to start with their delivery on the market in the second semester of this year. At the same time, Vipnet started to introduce the HSUPA 5.7 technology, which offers data upload speeds that are almost four times higher. New technology for seepd increase was presented in cooperation with the Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

During the Technology Day Vipnet also presented the test phase of the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld) standard.

“The test results of the new technologies and standards show that the customers will be in a position to make an even better use of the benefits provided by mobile phones and broadband in our 3G network. Vipnet has thereby continued with its considerable investment cycle in order to maintain Croatia on the international list of leading states in the field of technological achievements”, emphasized Mladen Pejković, CEO of Vipnet.

Miroslav Kantolić, ETK KAM VIPnet and Simobil summarized this success: “I am very pleased that we have provided support to our partner Vipnet in the HSPA+ technology demonstration. Thus Vipnet was among the first in the world to present the features and options of the new technology. From the technology aspect the infrastructure for this solution is already available. As far as users are concerned, I expect that the 21 Mbps speed in the downlink and 5 Mbps in the uplink should be possible in the second half of the year, depending on the user terminals availability. I would like to emphasize the importance of further HSPA network development carried on by Vipnet. It enables Croatia to keep pace with developed countries and to reach faster the desired broadband penetration. In this respect Ericsson Nikola Tesla is absolutely ready and with this presentation we have proved it.”
