The press conference organized by ETK took place in Split on July 8 and it presented to the public the activities of 140 young research and development engineers in ETK Split who work on communication software. This research and development department has been active for 23 years now and it is growing bigger and bigger. The volume of their work and its significance for the Ericsson Corporation contributed to higher employment and indirectly to the economy of Split and of the Split-Dalmatian County due to export growth, especially the export of knowledge contained in Ericsson Nikola Tesla and Croatia.
This issue was addressed by Gordana Kovačević, the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla and vice-president of Ericsson's Market Unit Central Europe. The managers of the Research and Development Department attended the conference and among them was also Björn Dellas, the Director of ETK Research and Development Center.
As a company sensitive to social and ethical issues in society, especially when the young generation is concerned, ETK has donated to the Split Youth Games its business communication system BusinessPhone, intended for small and medium companies.
The Mayor of Split, Zvonimir Puljić, spoke to the journalists gathered at the conference about the influence of large international corporations and their research and development activities on the economic progress of the City and County whereas the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FEMENA), Dinko Begušić, talked on the close cooperation of Ericsson Nikola Tesla and the Faculty as a good example of possible cooperation between business subjects and science in Croatia.
The press conference was well attended: a number of press, radio and TV journalists put questions to the managers of the company or asked for interviews. We shall see the response of the media in the next couple of days.
