Ericsson Nikola Tesla at Telecom Arena Conference
Much expectation put on broadband expansion

The 4th SEE Telecom Arena, organized by Infoarena digitalni sadržaji d.o.o., took place in the Westin Hotel in Zagreb, on March 18-19. The conference was devised as a central telecom industry event in Croatia and a major regional event.

Several round table and panel discussions presented an updated review of the telecom industry, its outlook and trends; they also addressed some "hot" topics, such as the revised Electronic Media Act (still in draft), DTK infrastructure and support provided by regulatory bodies.

The new draft of the Electronic Media Act brings many modifications; a new   provision stating that calls, messages and e-mails should be preserved as long as 6 months (operators' obligation) caused the biggest stir. The state secretary Mr. Breglec explained that meant were only the technical data on respective communication and not the communication contents.

Milan Živković, Strategy and Business Development Director of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, predicted in the conference panel a significant growth for telecom traffic until 2012, in which process the traffic structure would change toward the Internet and mobile TV as opposed to the present voice traffic domination.

Telecom Arena finished with a broadband access network panel; Tihomir Fabeta, network specialist from Ericsson Nikola Tesla presented the Full Service Broadband - Market Technology Consumer. He said there were 250 million broadband Internet users/ subscriptions and by 2011 this number would grow to 1.5 billion; 30 percent would be mobile broadband users.
