The purpose of the conference was to point at financing possibilities relating to the municipal infrastructure and public investment, esp. in the current financial and economic crisis. Cities and other administrative units will have to solve issues like maintaining existing infrastructure, its modernization and efficiency. Beside the continually rising need for financing municipal functions and modernizing the infrastructure, the cities will have to find new financing and management models; some of these models were presented at the conference.
Modern ICT technologies have become indispensable in urban development, esp. in large cities as they are agents of growth and development in a country. Boris Drilo, Director of Innovation, Marketing and Portfolio Management at Ericsson Nikola Tesla, presented the role ICT plays in urban development. The examples presented were the public safety and traffic management projects; it was emphasized that ICT projects can provide maximum effects in terms of planning, financing and using if they are viewed in a broad context of the „smart city“ needs and requirements.
More than 100 representatives of cities, local administrative bodies and business in the audience were acquainted with improvements offered by modern information and communication technologies of Ericsson Nikola Tesla. At the Mayor's panel discussion the participants shared experience and ideas and pointed to current problems of the majority of Croatian cities.
