Speaking at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Hans Vestberg, Ericsson President and CEO presented his vision for the future. “We are entering into a world with 50 billion connections. If we are to have a roll in that world, we need to help others do business, and not just be a tech company,” Vestberg said. In keeping with that, Ericsson has developed a solution together with Opera for an online app store targeted at operators rather than consumers, which will already offer 30,000 applications compatible with any mobile phone upon launch. Vestberg expects three billion new mobile broadband users within the next five years and said the company’s vision is to help to create a world which will include devices automatically connected to the Internet and various functions carried out automatically online.
Hans Vestberg encouraged the telecom industry to grasp its additional growth opportunities and lead beneficial change in society: “By leveraging our joint capabilities, we can transform other industries such as health, transport, media, government and utilities. Broadband will not only play a key role in creating new business models that transform economies, but it will also reduce carbon emissions from all the ways we work and live.”
