Cooperation with Academic Society 
10th Anniversary of Ericsson Nikola Tesla Summer Camp

The celebration of the 10th anniversary of the company Summer Camp was held in Ericsson Nikola Tesla. Since 2001 some 300 students have realized 162 student projects and 82 prototypes under the support of 73 tutors, both from the faculty and the company. Their work has been awarded by numerous recognitions, among which there were three Principal awards.

 

The academic grew in number by 7 new doctors of science coming from the above group of students as well as by 7 doctors of science coming from the company tutors. A long term positive effect of the summer camp is obvious through 16 doctoral theses, at the final stage now, and 150 diploma works related to the work in the summer camp workshops.

 

The celebration was attended by not only this summer attendees of the camp and their tutors, but also by the representatives of the academic society headed by the Prof. DSc Melita Kovačević, the vice-chancellor of the University of Zagreb, Prof. DSc Vedran Mornar, the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) and Prof. DSc Tomislav Kilić, the dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB).


MSc Gordana Kovačević the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla addressed the audience and stressed: „Nowadays, dynamic trends of changeable economic and technological conditions in the world, set a need for constant adaptations and all-life learning. Today, knowledge is the point of differentiation in the competitive global environment. This especially refers to ICT segment, where Ericsson Nikola Tesla, being an integral part of Ericsson Corporation, has been present for quite a long time. By interconnecting economy and educational institutes a two-way transfer of advanced technologies and competences is achieved, thus directly influencing the total completeness of a particular country. Ericsson Nikola Tesla has set up a long-time partnership with FER and FESB, which means a contribution to creation of the society of knowledge through joint development and research studies and projects.“ 


The audience was also addressed by the vice-chancellor for science and education of the University of Zagreb who pointed out the importance and role of interconnecting the economy and education to create the society of knowledge we are all aiming at. This example of the Ericsson Nikola Tesla Summer School, organized in cooperation with university confirms that this is can be a reality in Croatia.


The celebration ended by presenting the most successful team of 2010 Summer Camp. In the stiff competence of numerous innovative projects, the assessors pronounced the best tool IMUNES. This new tool enables to replace, in a simple computer, the expensive network equipment with testing in arbitrary complex network configurations. The application of the tool in an industry environment (Cello Packet Platform) results in considerable savings. The project was initiated by an idea through innovation system in Ericsson Nikola Tesla, and was developed at FER. Behind this innovative product there are young talents and students at FER Ivana Stupar, Mario Medvedec, Igor Hevčuk and Igor Lažegić. The company president handed them the gifts adequate for the occasion.
