Winner of the eAsie 2011

Ericsson's mobile initiatives related to health care in Vietnam, where EMH is key part, won the "Best ICT initiatives in health care", that was officially awarded December 2 at the prestigious annual ICT event, "eAsie 2011" in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The whole project in Vietnam was realized in cooperation with the local Ministry of Health and Trang An Hospital in order to develop a networked society and brings new benefits to business, individuals and the community at large. Successful trial demonstrates how innovative mobile communications solutions can benefit society, particularly in the area of health.

In the trial, selected patients suffering from asthma, hypertension, and heart diseases (Cardiac Arrhythmias) were equipped with mobile health kits from Ericsson, and their health status was then monitored remotely, with the data being transferred via the mobile network to doctors in Trang An Hospital. This allowed the hospital to provide prompt health services and support as needed.

This mobile health solution is seen to benefit patients with chronic health conditions, but who live far from hospitals or health care institutions. In Vietnam, where the distance to the nearest hospital from remote areas can be as much as 14 kilometres, the mobile health solution demonstrates an effective way to provide health care to underserved areas of the population.

Results from the trial indicate that the patients involved in the trial strongly agreed that the mobile health solution would provide tremendous benefit in the management of their conditions.  The doctors involved in the trial, on the other hand, strongly agreed that the proposed mobile health solution would gain acceptance among patients, and that the system is extremely user-friendly.

Mobile health solutions are part of Ericsson’s vision for a Networked Society, where everything that will benefit from having Internet connections will be connected

This successful case demonstrates how m-health solutions foreseen to help provide quality health care and showcases the potential of technology to create a better quality of life.
