At this year’s CeBIT, traditionally taking place in Hannover, Germany, Ericsson showcased the Ericsson Mobile Health solution in cooperation with Vodafone. At specially designed “Future Corner”, among innovative solutions, special attention was paid to healthcare solutions. The Ericsson Mobile Health, was demonstrated as a smart and easy to use solution, that connects patients and doctors bridging the gap between technology and medicine.
Ericsson and Vodafone demonstrated at CeBIT 2011, a new Mobile Health solution that allows the automatic transfer of health data from patients to doctors' offices, nursing and healthcare institutions or hospitals. The radio-based system is particularly suitable for the care of chronic diseases, and the after-care and preventive monitoring of recently released hospital patients. The AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) solutions, used in the health care system, improves patient care and considerably reduce costs, because patients can be discharged from hospital earlier. It also significantly increases the quality of life for those who need care or chronically ill.
To record the health data, such as blood pressure, pulse and lung function values, sensors are used. They needn’t be connected to a recording device via cable. The built-in Bluetooth modules wirelessly forward data to a compact and user-friendly device. The recorded data can then be transferred immediately or at scheduled times for medical evaluation at a central IT system. For data transmission from the monitoring terminal placed in doctor’s office, the hospital ward or a foster home, the Vodafone mobile network is used not only in Germany but almost universally.
Even abroad, this system can be readily used. In addition, there are a number of other possible scenarios, such as direct contact between a patient and a caregiver.
