A conference on social responsibility and anti corruption was held under the motto: Responsibility, Integrity and Transparency in Business on Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Westin Hotel Zagreb. It was organized in common by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia, Embassy of Sweden, Embassy of Denmark, and Croatian Employer’s Association. The conference was attended by important persons from Croatian and Swedish government administration and economy sector. The conference open speech was delivered by the Swedish ambassador to Croatia, Frederik Vahlquist, who, in the context of social progress, underlined the importance and the right to fight the corruption. The results of anti corruption program were presented and the discussions held concerning the achievements in profitable business in the environment, characterized by various degrees of corruption. The reports by the Ministry of Justice showed the degree of success achieved in companies implementing the Government anti corruption program. “The major targets of the anti corruption program for companies, in which the government is the largest shareholder, are the strengthening of integrity, responsibility and transparency in operation, creation of preconditions for preventing the corruption at all levels, as well as the affirmation of approach of the zero tolerance to the corruption“, pointed out Davor Dubravica, the Chief of the Department in the Ministry of Justice for corruption suppression.
Ericsson Nikola Tesla has been the company recognized in the region for the policy and practice distinguished in the given segment. Therefore, invited by the organizer, Gordana Kovačević, MSc, the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, gave a presentation to the esteemed audience on the social responsibility and anticorruption. The president of our Company started the lecture with a wide frame of the contemporary “plague“, which is a very harmful social phenomenon, since it degrades the fundamental social value of any community The corruption is not only a problem in Croatia, which is, in compliance with the Transparency International research covering 178 countries, placed in the category of medium corrupted countries, and is in the group with Turkey, Check Republic, Kuwait, Slovakia, Malaysia etc. It is about a global phenomenon knowing no borders. Ericsson has quite early recognized the social responsibility and Gordana Kovačević underlined as follows: “As of Ericsson Corporation, we apply the socially responsible operation and sustainability that is obvious, through out activities, in the economy, society and environment. This means that through our technology leadership and innovative approach we permanently create new values for our corporation and stakeholders“. In addition, Ericsson actively supports numerous projects of global character, such as Untied Nations initiatives– Global Compact or Millennium Villages.
Afterwards, she presented the areas of Ericsson activities pointing out the following: “It is our aim to put technology in function of development of social and economic parameters, reduce digital gap and make available the healthcare, education and better quality of life to all people “Within the presentation Ericssona Nikola Tesla the president stressed the following „Still in 2005, we were among the first to apply in Croatia the principles of corporation management. In addition, in our business operations we apply Ericsson code of business ethics and code of conduit. Besides, we are signatory of Croatian business ethics of the Croatian Chamber of economy. Ericsson Nikola Tesla adopted zero tolerance for non-ethical and corruption activities. “Gordana Kovačević concluded her presentation with the following words: “We, both in Ericsson Corporation, and Ericsson Nikola Tesla share the common obligation and common commitment for the highest level of integrity and ethics in business management. These are features of our ways of working, and we are recognized by them, as DNA determines ones personal code. To create a transparency in business management is of utmost importance. Therefore, to be a successful society in fighting the corruption, each individual shall be equally important. Each NO to corruption is a step forward to the common goal – society with no corruption. “
