The Croatian Chamber of Economy organized on Nov. 9 and 10, in Zagreb, the International Conference EDUCA PLUS, on lifelong education and human potentials development. This year the conference topic was “People - Potentials Today, Capital Tomorrow“. Already nine years in the row the Centre for Human Potentials Development, active within the Chamber of Economy, gathers experts and permanently informs institutions and organizations, as well as all engaged in the given problems on trends in human potentials segment.
On the first conference day the Croatian Qualification Frame (HKO) and Attracting and Retaining Talents, were discussed. The participants were offered actual and integral information on reasons and need to introduce HKO, its importance for working and educational mobility, and lifelong education with a special attention paid to the role of an employer in the better linking the educational system and the economy.
In a panel discussion, held during the conference part dedicated to the topic of “Attracting and Retaining of Talents“ , several successful examples of collaboration between education and economy ware presented. This adds to the competitiveness of young people at the job market. In that part of the program, the experiences within Ericsson Nikola Tesla were presented by MSc. Marijana Đuzel, the director of Human Resources and Organization, and Darko Huljenić, PhD the manager for cooperation with the scientific and academic society.

Our employees acquire skills and competences by attending courses in Training Centers both here and abroad, by e-training, by applying internal corporation software tools for specific knowledge exchange, on seminars, conferences and joining international projects” said Marijana Đuzel. In addition, she underlined our long term successful cooperation in research and development and education with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Split. “We are well aware that by encouraging the education and collaborating with institutions of higher education we create preconditions for future, not only as our company is concerned, but of the Croatian society in general. Ericsson Nikola Tesla has recognized the need for knowledge strategic management and linking economy with educational institutions as a must for the development of modern society of knowledge that we aspire to”, concluded Marijana Đuzel.
Talking about the collaboration with educational community, Darko Huljenić pointed out an example of Ericsson Nikola Tesla Summer Camp that was organized 11 years in a row. The last Camp gathered the best students of electrical engineering from Croatia and neighboring countries, thus offering them opportunity to participate in real research and development projects. So far, such Summer Camps were attended by more than 300 students, supported by almost a 100 mentors coming from the company. They worked on 182 projects and 102 prototypes. Their diligent work resulted in 3 Rector Awards, 14 doctoral thesis defended, 16 doctoral thesis at the final stage, and even 170 graduation thesis were been related to work in the Summer Camp.
