Synergy Drives Changes

The event that was held in Ericsson Nikola Tesla on Sept. 28 and titled “Synergy Drives Changes” was crown of this year Summer Camp. It gathered numerous participants of the Summer Camp 2011, representatives of the academic community and the hosts both from Ericsson Nikola Tesla, and Ericsson.

 
Snježana Bahtijari, the director of the Marketing and Communications unit (DOP included), opened the event and pointed out the Ericsson role as a driving force in the society. She also presented the most important company activities.
Darko Huljenić, DSc, the leading person in the company for the cooperation with the academic community, gave an interesting speech titled “Synergy-the driving force of technological changes“ Afterwards the audience was addressed by Prof. Vinko Begušić, DSc, from the  Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split, Prof. Ignac Lovrek, DSc, from  the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in  Zagreb, and Prof.  Narcis Behlilović, DSc, the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (ETF) in Sarajevo, who presented the applications of a successful cooperation between the economy and the academic community. The event went on with the presentation by Davora Babić, the head of the National Foundation supporting pupil and student standard, who talked about  goals and activities of the Foundation, as well as of steps to be taken to prepare young specialists for the new labor market challenges.


Darko Huljenić DSc, and Saša Dešić, DSc, presented numerous activities that took place during the Summer Camp 2011. It is about Ericsson Nikola Tesla Summer Camp, 11th in the row that gathered the best students of electrical engineering in Croatia and neighboring countries, who were thus given the opportunity to participate in the actual research and development projects in cooperation with the company specialists. This summer, there were 54 students (4 from abroad) who worked during  5 weeks on 23 projects, with the participation of 31 mentor from Ericsson Nikola Tesla. As of the given projects, 10 of them were developed on the basis of innovative proposals by the company specialists. So far, the summer camps were successfully attended by more than 300 and somewhat more than 100 mentors. They worked on 182 projects and 102 prototypes. Their industrious work resulted in 3 Rector Awards, 34 papers, 14 successfully defended doctoral dissertations, 16 doctoral dissertations at the final stage and even 170 graduation thesis connected to the activities in the Summer Camp.


The event continued with awarding the best students working on most important projects. The award for the best individual performance in the team went to Enio Kaljić from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering  in Sarajevo. The best new integrated features proclaimed for the existing product were Interactive Services and Video Communication Browser for Ericsson Mobile Health in a work by students from FER: Ivan Longin, Pavle Skočir, Tomislav Briševec, Hrvoj Bandov, Ivan Band and Bruno Soldo, under the mentorship of Goran Kopčak. The best new case in using the existing application was  the Application for Doctors' Rounding within the Hospital Information System, by students from FER: Jurica Babić, Branimir Conjar, Krešimir Mišura and Filipa Puđak, under the mentorship of Tomislav Košutić and Petra Svodoba.


Numerous presentations were ended by Patrick Martin, the head of the Research and Development Center in Ericsson Nikola Tesla, who underlined the importance of cooperation of this centre and the academy community. 
Afterwards, the visitors took a company tour with several points of interest. Saša Dešić, DSc, presented a successful implementation of an innovative process in the company, and Vlatko Bolt and Vladimir Končar talked about important company projects that resulted from the innovation process. Smiljan Pilipović presented the innovative way of working that became an integral part of daily working culture in Ericsson Nikola Tesla. The tour continued with the presentation of some company solutions. LTE and IMS areas were covered by Ivan Lupić, and e-health by Darko Gvozdanović and Ivan Benc. The tour of the company ended with a visit to testing systems, where Dejan Čikeš and Saša Milanović presented the actualities in the given area.
