Value Management in the Function of Promoting Human Rights

The conference titled Value Management in the Function of Promoting Human Rights and Sustainable Development that was organized by the Office of Human Rights with the Government of Croatia, and Ericsson Nikola Tesla, took place in the company big hall, on Feb. 2, 2012.

 

The conference aim was to set the cause-effect relationship of the socially responsible business operation, both in the private and the public sector, and the status of Human rights in the Republic of Croatia. The question was whether it is possible, and to what extent, for the value management to contribute, to the achievement of the sustainable development of the society as a whole, and who are the major participants, and the partners, respectively in preparing  and realization of the given management.


The conference was opened by MSc Gordana Kovačević, the president of Ericson Nikola Tesla and Luka Mađerić, the head officer in charge of the Office of Human Rights with the Government of Croatia, and Louisa Vinton, UN coordinator and the permanent representative of UNDP in Croatia.

 

By presenting the value management in the function of the corporate culture creation in Ericsson Nikola Tesla, the company president gave inspired overview of the strategic connection of the value system and the company culture and the results and the success of a company and the society as a whole.


She underlined that we should all understand and live our key values, such as the professionalism, respect and perseverance, since it was the precondition to achieve the set targets and the sustainable business development. According to the investigations the results achieved by companies with developed culture, based on ethic principles were up to 200% better and their employees were by six times more loyal. Honesty, ethics, integrity and character are the key factors in the interactive relations between leaders and employees. Croatia needs leaders who have the positive power in the Croatian social scene, courageous leaders and creators of changes, as well as people encouraging innovative way of working as the precondition for added value creation. Primarily it was about the ethical and responsible persons, concluded the company president.


The quality presentations and the fruitful discussion was enabled  by the experts in the human rights area and the socially responsible business, namely the speakers were: professor DSc Ksenija Turković, the provost for legal issues and the international cooperation, and the full professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, DSc Mislav Ante Omazić assistant professor, at the Department for Organization and Management at the Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb, MSc. Dubravka Matić, the acting head of the Social Partnership Office in Croatia,  Mirjana Matešić, the head of the Croatian Business council for the Sustainable development, Paul Stubbs, a scientific advisor from the Economic Institute in Zagreb,  prof. Boris Blažinić, the head of IQ Institute for Quality and Human resources Development,  Marina Škrabalo, Director of MAP Conference, Daria Mateljak,  director for Croatia and partner in the company Hauska & Partner, Žarko Horvat, the director of Industry Ecology in the company Holcim Croatia, and Martina Roša, the business process leader for human resources in Coca-Cola HBC Croatia.

 

The conference conclusion was that it is necessary to create conditions for the development of the community with a synergy of all citizens and all sectors of the society for active participation, on the equal basis and responsibility, on the sustainable development principles and activities for common good, in order to build more fair society. All participants in the society should accept and live common values in the dynamic environment that is constantly changing. This required the individual responsibility and focus to results. The requirement for responsible operations and business, as well as results is equally important to business, public, and civil sectors.
