Words of welcome to the prominent audience at the conference opening gave prof. Dinko Begušić DSc, the professor at the Split University, prof. dr. sc. Srdjan Podrug, the dean of FESB, prof. dr. sc. Roko Andričević, the provost for science, international and inter-university cooperation and quality control at the University of Split, Ante Sanader, the prefect of the Split&Makarska county and MSc Gordana Kovačević, the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla. In her addressing the audience, she expressed the appreciation for the SoftCOM anniversary and underlined that we in Ericsson Nikola Tesla, also have a jubilee to mark. It was about 30th anniversary of our research and development centre located in Split. The interconnection between these two important anniversaries is the faculty FESB, the place where SoftCOM originated from, and where the nucleus of today ETK R&D centre was launched. Today some 270 highly qualified professionals are employees of this centre. Nowadays, along with their colleagues in Zagreb they work in Ericsson global teams, thus participating in designing of modern ICT products, solutions, software and services. In such a way, they create conditions for the networked society where, according to estimations by analysts already in 2020 more than 7 billion people will be interconnected via 50 billion of networked devices. Therefore, today, more than ever, the conferences like SoftCOM, have an important mission – to spread the awareness on the importance of the development and application of modern technologies for good quality of human life, and to promote knowledge, was the main message of the introductory words by the president of our company.
DSc Siniša Krajnović, the vice-president and director of DUCI&IMS Ericsson, Sweden, participated in the plenary session of the conference and took his cue from the introductory speech by Gordana Kovaćević . While presenting Ericsson vision of the future, Mr Krajnović pointed out the importance of the networked society in which all that may benefit from networking will be networked, thus creating conditions for faster economy growth and development of the society and to improve life of people too. The basis for the success of the networked society consists of mobility, broadband Internet and cloud computing, and ICT industry is the exponent in the modern society development, pointed out Siniša Krajnović.
